Overview: This three-hour workshop sponsored by Colorado Law, Silicon Flatirons, and the ACC is designed to teach in-house counsel how they can build a metrics-driven law department with demonstrated ROI. The topics covered will include relevant law department metrics, key cost drivers and how to manage them, and the ethical and moral issues associated with employing non-traditional legal service providers. Attendance is limited to 30 participants to allow the program to be conducted as a hands-on workshop.

Instructor: The workshop will be led by Bill Mooz, CU Law's Chief Strategy Officer and Scholar in Residence. Bill has over 25 years' experience helping law firms, law departments, and the companies they represent develop and implement strategies for driving revenue growth and improving profitability. Bill began his career at Holland & Hart, LLP, where he co-founded and managed the firm's Boulder, CO office, helping grow it into one of the firm's most profitable branches. Bill left private practice in 1996 to serve as Deputy General Counsel at Sun Microsystems, where he later served in a business role running business development and strategy for the company's multi-billion dollar support services business and then founded and ran the company's utility computing services business. Following Oracle's acquisition and integration of Sun, Bill moved to Vmware, Inc. where he led a number of initiatives to improve business agility, shorten transaction cycle times and reduce legal costs by re-architecting portions of the company's M&A diligence and integration process, streamlining contract templates, automating large portions of the contracting process, and outsourcing a wide variety of legal activities to India. Bill currently teaches courses in the future of legal practice and technology transactions at CU Law.
