Colorado Law In House Counsel Series: Leading and Managing Change
Monday, February 11, 2013; 1:00 - 4:00 PM
@ University of Colorado Law School, Room 101
Being an effective in-house attorney requires not only excellent legal skills, but also the ability to understand the client's business, collaborate across different parts of the business, and help the business accomplish its goals in an era of accelerating change. Stated differently, in-house lawyers must be able to evaluate and mitigate both business and legal risks in a pragmatic manner, building trusted relationships with different parts of the business. At the same time, in-house law departments must master the challenge of managing and operating in an era of constant change.
In this program, we will discuss the principles for leadership that in-house counsel must master. In addition to hearing from leading General Counsels on these topics, we will engage in a conversation about how such skills can best be taught-both in law schools and law departments.
